The Islamabad Capital Police (ICTP) has released its annual performance report for 2025. The police registered a total of 25,324 criminal cases related to various criminal activities in the federal capital during the year 2025, official data shows. The force achieved a staggering 37 per cent reduction in overall crime, with heinous offenses plummeting by 69 per cent compared to the previous year.
The reported crimes included murder, attempted murder, dacoity, robbery, snatching, theft and vehicle theft. The data shows that the police had received a total of 71,482 complaints, but a majority of them did not result in the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs).
The Operations Division arrested 23,683 suspects during the year. Police successfully dismantled 578 dangerous gangs, arresting 1,308 members and recovering stolen valuables worth over Rs2 billion. The crackdown also targeted the city’s land mafia, with 161 individuals apprehended in connection with 157 cases of illegal occupation.
Two flagship initiatives defined the year’s success is Anti-Narcotics drive. Under the ‘Nasha Ab Nahi’ movement, police seized over 1,000 kg of narcotics, including hashish, heroin, and ice. Notably, 29 individuals were arrested for specifically targeting educational institutions.
The ‘Weapon-Free Islamabad Campaign’ led to the seizure of over 2,500 firearms and nearly 37,500 rounds of ammunition, effectively curbing the culture of illegal arms display and aerial firing.
The 2025 report highlights the efficiency of Islamabad’s modern investigative system. In over 20 high-profile cases - including the high-profile murder of social media influencer Sana Yousaf and the abduction of a child from a mall - suspects were traced and apprehended in less than 24 hours. The judiciary supported these efforts with firm sentencing; 14 criminals were handed the death penalty, while another 14 received life imprisonment.
Beyond enforcement, the ICTP focused on structural reforms to bridge the gap between the public and the police: 1,270 ‘Open Courts’ were held, providing direct relief to over 100,000 citizens.
The force introduced body-worn cameras, e-police posts, and 206 new motorcycles for patrol units.
The Model police stations were established under the Special Initiatives Police Stations (SIPS) program to provide a more citizen-centric environment.
The year's achievements came at a heavy cost. Four brave officers laid down their lives in the line of duty, attaining the status of martyrdom, while 33 officers were officially honored as ‘Ghazi’ for their courage in high-risk operations.
