Initiatives for Sustainable Development

Initiatives for Sustainable Development (ISD) is an initiative of Peace & Justice Network working since early 2017 for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan. ISD formally registered in February, 2018 with Securities & Exchange Commission (SECP) Pakistan. It functions as a think tank, advocacy group and public outreach organization independent of government. Priorities for action for all programs are selected on the basis of the needs as determined on the ground, involving all stakeholders in the design and implementation of activities.

In advocacy activities, ISD raises awareness and fosters public debate through explicitly political campaigns and the implementation of key programs, such as provincial and district level meetings, often co-hosted and co-organised with Government, fostering partnerships between public institutions, non-governmental  organisations  and  other actors in society, to attain stakeholders’ ownership both of the political drive and of the results. ISD also undertakes wide-ranging technical assistance for the drafting of legislation and to assist in negotiations on human rights instruments from its support institution Peace & Justice Network (PJN).

ISD vision is to make Pakistan an inclusive society that is based on the promotion and protection of all human rights, as well as respect for and value of dignity of each individual, diversity, pluralism, tolerance, non-discrimination, non-violence, equality of opportunity, solidarity, security, and participation of all people, including disadvantaged and vulnerable groups and persons.

Initiatives for Sustainable Development (ISD) seeks to promote knowledge-based policy making for intensification democratic institutions and building public stakes in human, empowering citizens, consumer and communities, national security dissertation by taking strategic action on public interest issues. It remains committed to investing in sustainable policies that promote fundamental rights, tolerance and pluralism.
