In a significant step toward strengthening a rights-based and secure digital ecosystem, Peace & Justice Network Pakistan (PJN) has launched the Digital Defenders Pakistan Portal—an AI-powered platform designed to support Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), journalists, activists, and civil society actors in navigating digital threats while advancing a safe, inclusive, and protected digital civic space. As civic engagement and public discourse increasingly shift online, the need for robust digital safety, privacy protections, and accessible support systems has become more urgent than ever. The Digital Defenders Pakistan Portal responds to this evolving landscape by equipping frontline actors with practical tools, real-time guidance, and responsive support to mitigate risks, counter emerging threats, and safeguard their work.
The platform offers an integrated, AI-driven support system that provides real-time guidance on digital safety, risk mitigation, and secure communication practices, helping users respond effectively to emerging online threats. It includes a confidential incident reporting mechanism where Human Rights Defenders can safely report digital harassment, security breaches, or rights violations, with clear pathways for timely response and support. The portal also provides access to legal aid and advisory services, offering guidance on cyber laws, including the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), to help users understand and protect their rights. In addition, it hosts a wide range of multilingual digital security resources, such as toolkits, safety guides, and training materials, designed for diverse user groups across Pakistan. Complementing these features, the platform creates a safe virtual space that enables HRDs and activists to connect, share experiences, and access peer support within a secure and trusted environment.
Speaking on the launch, a PJN representative stated: “As online risks and restrictions grow, it is critical to ensure that those working to defend human rights are not left unprotected. The Digital Defenders Pakistan Portal is a step toward empowering individuals with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to stay safe, informed, and resilient in digital spaces.”
The platform is part of PJN’s broader commitment to safeguarding digital civic space in Pakistan by strengthening resilience, promoting rights-based digital engagement, and advocating for enabling legal and policy frameworks.
Human Rights Defenders, journalists, civil society members, and citizens are encouraged to explore the platform, utilize its resources, and become part of a growing network committed to digital safety and rights.
