Aawaz II thematic roundtable Strengthening Community-Led Social Cohesion and Sustainability of the Early Warning System / Early Response Mechanism (EWS/ERM) by PJN Pakistan

Sun, December 07, 2025

Peace & Justice Network (پیس اینڈ جسٹس نیٹ ورک پاکستان) on 5th December organized a #AawazII thematic roundtable in #Punjab on “Strengthening Community-Led Social Cohesion and Sustainability of the Early Warning System / Early Response Mechanism (EWS/ERM)”.

The session brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the National Commission for Human Rights #NCHR Punjab Office, Human Rights & Minority Affairs Department, and Punjab Police, to explore how local knowledge, community structures, and institutional coordination can work together to prevent conflicts, promote peace, and ensure long-term sustainability of early warning systems.

The roundtable focused on highlighting lessons learned, challenges, and best practices from #AawazII implementation in #Punjab. Participants discussed pathways to institutionalize Aawaz II community structures with government community-based mechanisms such as #MeesaqCentres, #HumanRights, #InterfaithHarmony, and #PeaceCommittees, while strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration for early warning, conflict mitigation, and the promotion of social harmony.

Key outcomes of the roundtable included an actionable roadmap for:

????1) Institutional Integration – formalizing partnerships through MOUs with government departments, embedding community-led referral and early warning systems within existing structures, and integrating trained focal persons into district and provincial committees.

????2) Sustaining Community Engagement – maintaining linkages between community structures and authorities through regular coordination, and supporting community-led actions and interfaith dialogues via existing government and civil society networks.

This collaborative effort reaffirms PJN Pakistan’s commitment to inclusive peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable, community-owned mechanisms across Punjab.

Aawaz II is an FCDO-funded programme working in #KhyberPakhtunkhwa, #Punjab, and #Sindh provinces, with PJN, alongside the British Council, leading the community engagement component in Punjab. British High Commission in Pakistan
