ECP to hold Punjab local government elections in December 2025

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that local government (LG) elections in Punjab will be held in the last week of December 2025.
According to the ECP, the polls will be conducted under the existing laws in accordance with the Local Government Act 2022.
The Commission has directed that the delimitation of constituencies begin tomorrow, with instructions to complete the process within two months.
The decision follows multiple hearings on the matter, after which the ECP reserved its verdict.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja had expressed dissatisfaction over delays in conducting elections in Islamabad and Punjab, calling it a matter of embarrassment for the Commission.
He emphasized that the ECP was fully prepared to hold local government elections but was awaiting the resolution of certain legal complexities.
