Capital police registered over 4,500 cases in first six months of year

The capital police registered at least 4,562 incidents of criminal activities in Islamabad during the six months of the current year.

The criminal activities included dacoity, robbery, snatching, burglary, theft and auto thefts.

Data collected from the capital police showed that the police registered 17 dacoities, 906 robberies, 532 snatchings, 381 burglaries, 918 thefts and 1,808 auto-theft incidents.

The 906 robbery incidents included 27 cases in which robbers shot and injured the victims, 30 house robberies, 91 shop robberies, a dozen vehicle robberies and 195 motorcycle robberies.

The 381 burglaries included 84 day and 297 night burglaries. Besides, the 1,808 auto-theft cases included 205 vehicle thefts and 1,603 motorcycle thefts.

According to the data, the City Zone police registered four incidents of dacoity, 126 incidents of robbery - 103 street robberies, three incidents where victims were injured during robbery, six house robberies, three shop robberies, two vehicle robberies, and nine motorcycle robberies.

Besides, there were 131 incidents of snatching, 25 day burglaries, 50 night burglaries, 283 thefts, 59 vehicle thefts and 452 motorcycle thefts.

The Saddar Zone police registered four incidents of dacoity, 203 incidents of robbery - 105 street robberies, six incidents with injured victims, five house robberies, 27 shop robberies, four vehicle robberies and 56 motorcycle robberies.

Besides, there were 104 snatching incidents, 26 day burglaries, 78 night burglaries, 164 thefts, 56 vehicle thefts, and 254 motorcycle thefts.

The Industrial Area Zone police registered two incidents of dacoity, 180 incidents of robbery — 129 street robberies, nine incidents with injured victims, two house robberies, five shop robberies, two vehicle robberies, and 33 motorcycle robberies.

Besides, the zone also registered 152 snatching incidents, seven day burglaries, nine night burglaries, 145 thefts, 35 vehicle thefts and 300 motorcycle thefts.

The Soan Zone police registered four incidents of dacoity, 252 robberies - 138 street robberies, six incidents with injured victims, seven house robberies, 26 shop robberies, two vehicle robberies and 72 motorcycle robberies.

Besides, the police also registered 104 snatching incidents, 17 day burglaries, 67 night burglaries, 157 thefts, 46 vehicle thefts and 340 motorcycle thefts.

The Rural Zone police registered three incidents of dacoity, 145 robberies — 76 street robberies, three incidents with injured victims, 10 house robberies, 30 shop robberies, one vehicle robbery and 25 motorcycle robberies.

Besides, the police also registered 41 snatching incidents, nine day burglaries, 93 night burglaries, 169 thefts, nine vehicle thefts, and 257 motorcycle thefts.

An officer said the police showed a decrease in crime by downgrading the severity of crimes or by non-registration of cases. In March, a gang of at least six robbers looted chicken worth Rs3.1 million at gunpoint from a poultry farm at Pahont Road.

In another incident, a gang of five to six gunmen looted livestock worth Rs1 million in Khanna. However, the police registered both cases under robbery (section 392 of PPC) instead of dacoity (section 395 of PPC).

Moreover, criminals disguised as officials snatched cash from Mohammad Yousaf at Koral and cash from Abdullah Khan at

Sabzi Mandi, but instead of registering the cases under section 382 or 356 of PPC, they were registered under sections 420, 170, and 171.

Besides, there were also a number of burglary incidents, but instead of registering the cases under section 457/380 or 454/380 of PPC, the police registered theft cases under section 380.
