K-P to increase dowry allowance to Rs100,000

PESHAWAR:Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the Zakat Department to increase the dowry fund to Rs100,000 from Rs30,000 for the needy girls.

While presiding over a meeting of Zakat and Social Welfare Department, he also assigned the task of free medical treatment of deserving people through the zakat fund.

The CM ordered the health department to establish a separate fund for the medication of the needy or to cover the free treatment of such people under the Sehat Card Scheme.

He also directed to devise measures for a transparent mechanism based on information technology for identification and distribution of zakat among the deserving people.

Concerned officials gave a detailed presentation on various reforms initiatives being introduced to streamline the affairs of the department and informed that the implementation of Zakat Management Information System (ZMIS) has been started with the aim to ensure services delivery in efficient and transparent manners.

Under the initiatives, a database would be established for all the orphans, special people, widows and homeless.

The ZMIS has also been prepared for the proper record of facilities related to health and would be implemented very soon. The forum was apprised that under the new system, data of around 35,000 orphans have been collected so far and will soon be presented for the approval of zakat council.
