Murad tells IGP to arm police with modern equipment

Thu, January 14, 2021

LARKANA: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed inspector general of police to strengthen provincial police by arming them with latest equipment and gadgets and imparting them modern training in performing different tasks, including riot management and fight against terrorists and bandits.

“Sindh has a unique distinction to have the oldest police force in South Asia, therefore, our police must be well-trained, well-equipped, well-behaving and thoroughly professional to be able to live up to this distinction,” he said while speaking at a ceremony for distributing offer letters among 93 newly-inducted assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) at the Police Training School here on Friday.

He congratulated the new ASIs, including six females, who were offered the jobs after they had passed a test conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission in March this year, and said police service was a sacred profession because policemen ensured safety, security and protection of people’s life and property.

He told the ASIs that they were going to wear a uniform which commanded importance and respect in society. “Now, your uniform has become your skin and you have to further enhance its respect and dignity in peoples’ eyes,” he said.

Shah said that Sindh police had rendered great sacrifices in line of duty in the province, particularly in Karachi. “Karachi was bleeding because of terrorism but the police along with other law enforcement agencies eliminated terrorism from the city,” he said.

Today Karachi had become a peaceful city where business, cultural and educational activities were flourishing thanks to police. “Our policemen not only sacrificed their lives while fighting against terrorists but also during Covid-19 emergency,” he said.

He exhorted them to adopt principles of honesty, integrity, hard work and dedication and try to emulate the recent example of bravery and sense of duty shown by ASI Mohammad Bakhsh Buriro of Kashmore who put his daughter’s life at risk to get a woman and her daughter freed from the clutches of abductors. This single act of courage by ASI Buriro had made all policemen of Sindh proud, he said.

He directed the IGP to impart the new inductees the best training available to make them exemplary policemen. The Sindh police had outdated GSM locators and IGP had been directed to upgrade them and purchase other security gadgets and weapons as well. “No matter how much it costs the government will bear it,” he assured.

Sindh government would shortly kick off construction work on another bridge over the Indus to connect Ghotki and Kandhkot and it would be the second long bridge on the river after Jherruk-Mullah Katiar bridge linking Tando Mohammad Khan and Thatta, he said.

He distributed offer letters among the ASIs and later went to each ASI and took selfies with them. Earlier, the chief minister was given guard of honour on his arrival at the venue.
