Lawyers’ strike halts PHC, trial court proceedings

PESHAWAR:Lawyers in the provincial capital continued their boycott of court proceedings against amendments made in the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) for the 10th consecutive day on Monday.
As a result, litigants faced extreme difficulties because they had to return empty-handed and without their cases being heard.
The lawyers went on a strike on October 17 against the amendments to the CPC, terming it contrary to the recommendations of lawyers.
They called on the government to immediately hold dialogues with the lawyers and resolve the matter.
Litigants said that the frequent strikes by lawyers waste their time and causes them agony. The strike in the district courts is expected to continue until October 27.
Meanwhile, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (K-PBC) has formed an administrative committee comprising lawyers after the Peshawar High Court (PHC) transferred cases from PHC DI Khan Bench to PHC Bannu Bench.
The high court’s decision came in wake of the situation emerging from the lawyer's strike.
A meeting of the K-PBC was held under Shahid Raza Barqi on Monday in which bar members participated. Participants demanded the government overturn the amendments made in the CPC.
