Fri, August 11, 2017

A mentally challenged man, who was sentenced under allegations of blasphemy but later released due to his mental condition, was killed in Tando Adam on Friday, said police.

The 32-year-old Atta Mohammad Buriro was shot dead in village Kamal Buriro near Tando Adam town.

Sharing details of the incident, the police said that the victim, who was recently released from captivity, was taking bath at an irrigation watercourse when two pillion riders shot at him, killing him on the spot.

The body was handed over to the deceased relatives after a postmortem examination.

The slain person, according to the police officials, was booked under Section 295 C on Nov 28, 2012, on the complaint of a local lawyer Altaf Hussain Junejo.

The deceased man, while visiting the court, had asked the lawyers and other court staffers to call him as a "messenger", added a local lawyer who wished not to be named.

He was found guilty of the crime and was sentenced to life imprisonment, said Tando Adam police station SHO Ghazi.

The court later issued a release order after a medical board confirmed that the prisoner was not in his senses, the SHO said, adding that he was released from Central Jail Hyderabad some 15 days ago.

Later in the evening, the two attackers surrendered themselves before the police and confessed to having killed Atta Mohammad, who according to them, was involved in committing blasphemy.

Rajar confirmed the arrest of the two self-proclaimed killers and told the local reporters that police was investigating the murder from different angles.
