ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have decided to improve relations with the community and garner public support by resolving issues at their doorsteps, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rana Hussain Tahir said at an open kutchery held at Bhara Kahu police station on Sunday.
The open forum was organised on the directions of Inspector General of Police Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan and Deputy Inspector General of Police Waqaruddin Syed.
The station house officer, members of conciliatory committees and a number of notables along with residents of the area were present.
ASP Tahir listened to the problems of the residents and issued directions for their immediate resolution, so that the “public trusts police and a culture of friendly policing could be ensured.” He said Islamabad police were taking every possible step to maintain peace in the city and the force requires cooperation from citizens, to ensure fool proof security. Public cooperation is vital and crime can be controlled through involving the community in police affairs fairly, he added.
He asked citizens to monitor activities of people in their surroundings and inform police in case they saw any suspects. The police have launched an effective crackdown against those involved in drug peddling, land grabbing and criminal activities in their respective areas, he said, adding e-conciliatory committees would also be made more effective.
Meanwhile, suspects were arrested and drugs, liquor and weapons were recovered from their possession.
