ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday admitted a petition for regular hearing filed against the use of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) flag on the Sehat (health) card.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) member of the National Assembly, Barrister Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, filed the petition in March to stop the use of the PTI flag on the card.
The petition has alleged that the PTI is using government resources for its publicity which is a violation of a Supreme Court order.
According to the petition, former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice of the government advertisements on Feb 28, 2018, and later stopped the advertisements of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments.
The petition pointed out that the Supreme Court, in a separate order dated March 8, 2018, had banned the advertisement of any political leader, party or symbol. It said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had welcomed the judgement, adding that the Federation as well as the health and information ministries were spending public money indiscriminately on campaigning for the PTI.
The petition cited Prime Minister Imran Khan, the principal secretary to the prime minister as well as the information and health ministries as respondents.
The court sought a reply from the respondents and adjourned the hearing till a fortnight.
